Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use this website or buy an e-book, why we collect it, who sees it, and what rights you have. It follows Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA).

1. Who is responsible

2. What we collect

When you buy a book

• your name, as you enter it at checkout;
• your email address;
• the books you bought, the amount, the date and your order number;
• references that link your order to Stripe's records of your payment.

Stripe takes your payment on its own secure page. We do not see or store your full card number. Stripe tells us only that the payment succeeded.

When you download

• the time of each download, which book it was, and a scrambled (hashed) form of your network address. We use this only to enforce the download limit and to spot misuse.

When you contact us

• your name, email address and what you write to us.

On this website

• your cart is saved in your own browser (local storage) so it is still there when you come back. It never leaves your device until you check out;
• we do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If we add website statistics later, we will update this page first.

3. Why we use it

• to complete your order, send your download links and deliver the books;
• to send you new links when you ask for them;
• to answer your questions and handle refunds;
• to prevent fraud and misuse of the site;
• to protect authors' rights: each book is marked with your name, email and order number, so that a copy that is shared without permission can be traced back to its order (see the Terms of Sale);
• to keep accounting and tax records and to meet our legal duties.

We rely on your consent when you place an order, and on our legal and business needs for the purposes above. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see section 7), but then we may not be able to serve you.

4. Marketing

We do not send marketing emails. The only emails we send are about your order, the links you ask for, and replies to messages you send us.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the store:

• Stripe, to take payments and process refunds;
• Resend, to deliver our emails to you;
• Hostinger, which hosts our website and order records;

and with our professional advisers (for example our accountants), and with the authorities where the law requires.

Some of these providers handle data outside Singapore, for example in the United States or Europe. We choose providers that protect personal data to a standard comparable to the PDPA, and we make sure they are bound to do so.

6. How long we keep it

• Order records (name, email, books, amount): at least 5 years, as accounting and tax rules require.
• Download records: up to 12 months.
• Messages to us: for as long as needed to deal with them, and then for a reasonable time afterwards.
• Customers of our earlier online store: we also hold the name and email address from those orders, so that you can download your books again and so that we can help you. We use them for no other purpose.

When we no longer need personal data, we delete it or make it anonymous.

7. Your rights

You can ask us:

• for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
• to correct anything that is wrong. If your name is wrong on a book, tell us and we will issue a corrected copy;
• to delete your data or to stop using it, where we no longer need it for the purposes above;
• to withdraw your consent.

Email sales@aktive.com.sg. We will reply as soon as we reasonably can, and in any case within 30 days. We may need to check who you are first.

If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) of Singapore at www.pdpc.gov.sg.

8. How we protect it

Our website uses encrypted connections. Access to order records is limited. Download links are signed, expire after 7 days and cannot be guessed. If a data breach happens that we are required to report, we will tell the PDPC and the people affected as the law requires.

9. Children

Our student books may interest younger readers. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to place the order for you.

10. Other websites

Our pages sometimes link to other websites, such as authors' sites. We are not responsible for how they use personal data.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top of the page shows when it last changed.
